DAHLONEGA, Ga. - In what has become the norm,
the No. 21 Georgia College & State University soccer team
(12-1-3, 5-1-1 PBC) picked up their 11th shutout of the 16 game
season, this time handcuffing North Georgia (7-6-2, 4-3 PBC) 2-0
tonight (Oct. 29).
The Bobcats picked up a goal in each half, as senior forward
Hayley
Ferrell (Hampton, Ga.) hit her 10th of the season in
the first stanza, her fifth this year of the game-winning variety.
She took a pass from sophomore Ally Treat
(Fayetteville, Ga.) and sent a liner inside the left post
in the 21st minute.
Ferrell and junior Lyric Burnett
(Douglasville, Ga.) teamed up to find freshman Megan McAlpin
(Newnan, Ga.) for the second strike during the 51st
minute. The goal was McAlpin's fifth.
Sophomore netminder Mary Rob Plunkett
(Augusta, Ga.) improved upon her league-leading numbers,
making seven stops for the shutout, her seventh of the season.
The win gives the Bobcats a guaranteed home game in the first
round of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) playoffs, set to begin
Nov. 4. Opponents are to be determined by the final few contests
this season. The Bobcats are now third in the PBC standings, but
could finish as high as first.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. at
PBC-leader No. 4 Columbus State University (15-3, 6-0 PBC). The
Cougars host Georgia Southwestern State University tonight.
