AMERICUS, Ga. - Led by
junior Graham Martin's
(Marietta, Ga.) season-high 20 points, Georgia College &
State University men's basketball (12-2, 6-2 PBC) picked up its
eighth win in the last nine, taking a 71-60 victory at Georgia
Southwestern State University (7-9, 3-6 PBC) tonight (Jan. 21).
Martin was 7-for-11 from the field and yanked down a team-high
five rebounds. Sophomore forward Josh Hurst (Athens,
Ga.) added a career-high 14 points, while senior guard Shaun Keaton
(Albany, Ga.) scored 12. Junior point guard Ty Rowland
(Lilburn, Ga.) had eight assists, his third game with eight
or more this season.
The Bobcats had a paltry four turnovers, while causing 14, also
winning the battle on the offensive glass, 15-5. Both stats gave
the 'Cats the extra possessions that would prove the
difference. The four turnovers were the least for a Bobcat team
since Dec. 30, 2002, when Georgia College matched that number
against Carson-Newman College.
Georgia College held Hurricane leading scorer Anthony Sargent
under his season average of 17.1 points per game. The No. 3 scorer
in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) managed just nine against the
Bobcats. Damayrius Adside was the only double-digit scorer for GSW,
getting 10 off the bench.
The all-time series remains in GSW's favor, but is now trimmed
to 29-25. GCSU has taken the last five meetings.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m.,
hosting No. 10 USC Aiken (11-3, 6-1 PBC). The Pacers most recently
beat Lander University tonight 78-67. Saturday will be "Green Day"
at the Centennial Center, with a pre-game tailgate scheduled for
12:30 p.m.
