VALDOSTA, Ga.
- The Georgia College & State University baseball team's (10-4,
3-0 PBC) bats stayed consistent facing eight different pitchers of
Valdosta State University (9-6, 0-0 GSC) pulling out a 8-5 victory,
their ninth straight.
The Bobcats took an early lead in the first against Thomas
Tripp, when catcher Pete Paris (Scranton,
Pa.) doubled to right center to score centerfielder
Sean
Harrell (Martinez, Ga.) and designated hitter
Buddy
Elmore (Dallas) who had both reached on walks. Third
baseman Steve
Muoio
(Rochester,
N.Y.) then followed with a single
to score Paris.
The first of eight pitching changes came in the top of the
second for VSU when Steve Turner came in to pitch, keeping the bats
silent for the Bobcats for only two straight innings.
The Valdosta State bats arrived in the bottom of the second when
starter Mike Tokessy
(Kanata,
Ontario) gave up a walk, a double
and a single to put two runs on the board for the opposition.
When Luke
Rogers
(Watkinsville,
Ga.) came in relief in the bottom
of the third, VSU tied the game at three when turning a double play
showed to be a better option.
The Bobcats decided to take back the lead with the next pitcher
Shawn Keill took the mound walking two and giving up a sacrifice
fly RBI to Harrell.
In the fifth inning, the VSU squad tried their hand at the lead
scoring two runs off the third Bobcat arm Ryan Parson
(Madison,
Ga.) who came in with the bases loaded and no
outs. Parson then settled in getting the final out and combined
with Andrew Harris
(Madison,
Ga.), Ryan Tabor
(Lawrenceville,
Ga.) and Martin Dewald
(Mannehim,
Germany) to keep the VSU offense
silent and secure the win.
The Bobcats took back and held the lead for the final time in
the sixth and seventh inning scoring a total of four more runs
against four more VSU pitchers. Off eight pitchers in nine innings,
the Bobcats totaled 13 hits with Paris going 4-4 at the plate with
three RBI, his eighth straight RBI game, and the top of the line up
scoring 5 of the 8 total runs.
The Bobcats commence a cat fight against the Jaguars of Augusta
State University Friday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. followed by a double
header on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
