>>>boxscore

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University baseball team (15-6, 5-2 PBC) got all five runs in the first two innings and great pitching for a 5-1 victory over No. 7 North Georgia (15-9, 7-3 PBC) tonight (March 13) at John Kurtz Field.

Junior righthander Dylan Lightell (Rosamond, Calif.) tossed six strong innings, fanning nine Saints and allowing one run on a hit and four walks. By far the junior's best start of his GCSU career, he improved to 1-2.

The Bobcats jumped on North Georgia early, getting two in the bottom of the first. Designated hitter Buddy Elmore (Dallas) ripped a one-out double to score both Derek Johns (Waynesville, Ga.) and Sean Harrell (Martinez, Ga.).

GCSU tacked three more on in the second, when Harrell singled home Matt Pitts (Brunswick, Ga.) who had also reached on a single. A bases-loaded balk scored another run, and the scoring was capped by a run-scoring groundout.

The Saints picked up a run in the fifth, but never really threatened, tallying just two hits on the night. The Bobcats ripped 11 hits on the game, with just one extra-base knock.

North Georgia starter James Wiley drops to 1-2 with the 7 1/3 inning loss. He allowed five runs on 11 hits with four whiffs. For the Bobcats, Mike Tokessy (Ontario, Canada) threw 1 2/3 of scoreless relief before turning it over to Martin Dewald (Mannheim, Germany) for the 1 1/3 inning save, his fourth. Dewald struck out two and Tokessy three, as the Bobcat staff retired 14 Saints on strikes.

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, March 14 finishing the three-game set with the Saints in a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
