game two
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Using a pair of
come-from-behind efforts, the Georgia College & State
University baseball team (17-6, 12-2 PBC) took two games of a
crucial doubleheader from No. 7 North Georgia (15-11, 7-5 PBC),
11-6 and 6-2 to sweep a three-game Peach Belt Conference (PBC) set
at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats used a nine-run fifth to get past the Saints in game
one. Centerfielder Sean Harrell (Martinez,
Ga.) finished 2-for-5 with five RBI, with all of his runs
coming in the fifth. Harrell's big blow was a three-run round
tripper to left center.
Third baseman Steve Muoio (Rochester,
N.Y.) hit 2-for-4 with two RBI, both hits being doubles.
Rightfielder Derek Johns
(Waynesville, Ga.) added a 3-for-5 effort scoring once,
while Chandler Snell
(Loganville, Ga.) went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Sophomore Eric Pettepher
(Gordon, Ga.) went 5 1/3 innings in the win (3-1) fanning
five and allowing all six runs. Classmate Ryan Parson (Madison,
Ga.) tossed the final 3 2/3 scoreless, picking up his
first career save. North Georgia righty Taylor Musselwhite went 4
1/3 innings in the loss, allowing six runs.
North Georgia scored the first two runs of game two, but the
Bobcats rallied for runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh to take
the game. Snell had another multi-hit game, going 3-for-4, while
leftfielder Kyle Allen (Conyers,
Ga.) tallied a 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Allen's
single provided the go-ahead run in the sixth, plating Richard Pirkle
(Norcross, Ga.) who had singled. Six different Bobcats
scored runs in game two.
Junior lefty Clete Jessup (Darien,
Ga.) was impressive in the start, tossing six strong and
scattering 11 hits for just two runs and nine strikeouts. Jessup
improves to 3-0 on the season, while North Georgia starter Michael
Patton went 5 2/3 innings in the loss.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, March 17 at 2 p.m.,
traveling to the University of West Georgia.
