FLORENCE, S.C.- The Georgia College & State
University softball team (24-15, 10-1 PBC) beat Peach Belt
Conference (PBC) foe No. 19 Francis Marion University (23-11, 5-6
PBC) 3-1 in game one of the doubleheader today (March 28). Game two
was halted at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning because of
rain.
Freshman catcher Anna Parker (Columbus,
Ga.) hit a solo home run to left center today, continuing
to lead the team now with seven for the season. In game one, senior
Lindsey Swanson
(Kennesaw, Ga.) went 1-for-3 at the plate with one RBI,
while sophomore Kati Pickowitz
(Keller, Texas) went 1-for-2. The Bobcats made the most of
their four hits, scoring three runs.
In the circle, senior Mandy Chandler
(Covington, Ga.) tossed all seven innings for the Bobcats,
giving up four hits and one run, while fanning eight Patriot
batters. Michaela Wolf pitched the complete game for Francis
Marion, allowing four hits and three runs with five strikeouts.
Chandler took the win improving to 21-8, while Wolf fell to 13-7.
Game two was postponed due to weather during the bottom of the
sixth inning with the score tied at 3-3. Hopefully the game will be
completed either tonight or tomorrow, but as of right now the
weather shows no signs of improvement.
