MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Junior lefty Clete Jessup
(Darien, Ga.) tossed eight shutout innings, combined with
11 hits and 11 runs for the Bobcat bats, as No. 9 Georgia College
& State University baseball (23-9, 10-5 PBC) clobbered Lander
University (20-12, 6-7 PBC) 11-0 at John Kurtz Field today (March
30). The win gives GCSU a 2-1 series victory.
Jessup (4-1) tossed the first eight innings, scattering eight
hits and not walking a single Bearcat batter, while sitting down
seven via strikes. Counterpart Derek Thackston (0-1) went 3 1/3
innings in the loss.
The Bobcat bats came alive for four multi-run innings. Shortstop
ChandlerSnell
(Loganville, Ga.) lit up Bearcat pitching, going 4-for-4
with three runs and a pair of RBI. Third baseman Steve Muoio (Rochester,
N.Y.) ripped two doubles for a 2-for-4 scoring once and
driving in one. Rightfielder Danny McCorkell
(Wentzville, Mo.) was 2-for-2 in a reserve role, getting a
run and an RBI, while centerfielder Sean Harrell (Martinez,
Ga.) went 2-for-5 with a pair of stolen bases.
The Bearcats had two multi-hit performers, as leftfielder Brian
Bender was 2-for-4 and centerfielder Bud Lanier echoed those
numbers.
The win keeps the Bobcats in first in the Peach Belt Conference
(PBC) standings at 10-5. Lander slips to 6-7 in league play, good
for eighth.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, April 1 at 4 p.m.
hosting Valdosta State University (25-15). The Blazers take on the
University of West Alabama today.
