CARROLLTON, Ga.- The Georgia College & State University softball team (13-9) picked up a pair of wins today (March 6) in three games at the Wolves Invitational, hosted by the University of West Georgia.

The Bobcats started the day with a 2-1 win over Florida Southern College where they put up seven hits compared to the Moccasins' two. Freshman Stephanie Lezcano (Columbus, Ga.) went 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI, while classmate Jessica Solomon (Douglasville, Ga.) knocked her first collegiate round-tripper, a solo shot over the left field fence. Senior third baseman Tonya Medders (Bascom, Fla.) and junior second baseman Allison Schwimer (Cumming, Ga.) both were 2-for-3 at bat.

In the circle against Florida Southern, senior Mandy Chandler (Covington, Ga.) allowed two hits and one run with one walk and 10 strikeouts for a complete game effort. Christine Clark picked up the loss giving up seven hits and two runs with five strikeouts.

After defeating the Moccasins, Georgia College then took on No. 17 University of Alabama-Huntsville. The Chargers shutout the Bobcats 2-0 with freshman catcher Anna Parker (Columbus, Ga.) spoiling a no-hit bid by Charger starter Sage Wooham.

Wooham got the win for UAH tossing all seven innings, allowing one hit while fanning six. For the Bobcats, Chandler took the decision pitching seven innings, giving up four hits and two runs with four walks and sitting down 13 batters.

The day came to a close with a convincing 6-3 victory over the University of West Alabama. Freshman Haley Burnett (Columbus, Ga.) went the first four innings for her first collegiate win (1-2). Chandler tossed the final three for the save, her first of the year.

Burnett hit her first collegiate home run to help her own cause, with Lezcano and Sherquita Bostick (Florence, S.C.) adding multi-hit games.

Georgia College is back in action tomorrow as it closes out the tournament against North Alabama at 10 a.m. and taking on host West Georgia at 2 p.m.
