CARROLLTON,
Ga.- The Georgia College & State University
softball team (14-10, 3-1 PBC) closed out the Wolves Invitational
yesterday (March 7) beating the University North Alabama 6-0 and
the tournament host, the University of West Georgia 6-5.
Against UNA, Georgia College ace Mandy Chandler
(Covington, Ga.) picked up her second shutout of the
season in the 6-0 victory. The senior gave up two hits, while
striking out seven Lion batters for a complete game effort.
At bat for the Bobcats, freshman Stephanie
Lezcano (Columbus, Ga.) went 2-for-4 collecting two
RBI, while senior Tonya Medders
(Bascom, S.C.) also went 2-for-4. Freshman catcher
Anna
Parker (Columbus, Ga.) was perfect at the plate today,
going 3-for-3. Junior Allison Schwimer
(Cumming, Ga.) put up two RBI while freshman Jessica
Solomon (Douglasville, Ga.) added another.
In game two, West Georgia came out strong putting up three runs
in the top of the first inning but Georgia College kept it close in
the bottom of the first with two runs. The wolves went up by two in
the second inning tacking on another run. However, the Bobcats
pulled ahead with a four-run second inning. West Georgia scored one
run in the sixth inning but it wasn't enough to overcome the
Bobcats' six runs.
Lezcano continued to impress going 1-for-4 with two runs and an
RBI while Parker went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Senior Lindsey Swanson
(Kennesaw, Ga.) was 3-for-4 at the plate scoring two runs
with an RBI double, while classmate Sherquita
Bostick (Florence, S.C.) went 2-for-4 with pair of
doubles and an RBI. Schwimer look strong at bat again going 2-for-3
and scoring one run.
In the circle, freshman Haley Burnett
(Columbus, Ga.) tossed the first inning for Georgia
College allowing three hits, giving up three runs, walking one and
striking out two batters. Chandler stepped in for the last six
innings giving up three hits and two runs while walking four and
fanning seven.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, March 10 when they face
the Wolves again in Carrollton for the non-conference doubleheader
starting at 1 p.m.
