MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Georgia College & State University softball (6-8, 1-1 PBC) kicked off the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) season Tuesday, splitting with Georgia Southwestern State University (7-9, 1-5 PBC) at the Peeler Complex. The Bobcats won game one 6-3 and dropped game two 7-6.

The Bobcats closed out game one with runs in the fifth and sixth innings, snapping a 3-3 deadlock. Sophomore Haley Burnett (Columbus, Ga.) picked up the win (4-3), going all seven innings, allowing three runs and fanning five. GSW starter Jessica Martin (1-4) took the loss in five innings of work.

Catcher Anna Parker (Columbus, Ga.) went 3-for-3 with four RBI, swatting a two-run home run to left in the fifth to give the Bobcats the win. Her second home run of the young season, she also had a two-RBI single in the three-run first inning.

Game two was all but sewn up by the Bobcats, but a miraculous five-run rally in the top of the seventh gave the Hurricanes the 7-6 win. The Hurricanes scored five on four hits and took advantage of two Bobcat errors in the final frame.

Sophomore Caitlin Duvall (Douglasville, Ga.) went 4 1/3 innings of relief in the loss (0-2), allowing five runs, two earned. GSW reliever Tiffany Milstid (2-0) threw the final five innings of two-hit shutout ball for the win.

Designated player Lauren Potts (Gray, Ga.) went 2-for-4 with three RBI, knocking her second home run of the season, a three-run blast to left in the first. Shortstop Kayla Smith (Lexington, S.C.) also went 2-for-4, driving in a pair with a double in the second. Centerfielder Kati Pickowitz (Keller, Texas) tallied a 2-for-3 game with a run.

The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, Feb. 25 as they travel to No. 29 Carson-Newman College with a start time of 2 p.m.
