GREENWOOD, S.C.
– The Georgia College & State University
softball team (10-19, 2-4 PBC) split a doubleheader at Lander
University (11-15, 2-6 PBC) Tuesday, dropping game one 6-1 before
rebounding for a 4-2 victory.
The lone run for the Bobcats in
game one came on a Haley
Burnett (Columbus, Ga.) home run in the second,
cutting Lander's lead to 2-1. The Bearcats got four runs in
the fifth to push it back out of reach.
Burnett took the loss, throwing
all six innings and allowing two earned runs among her six total.
She had five strikeouts and three walks.
All of the fireworks in game two
happened in the very first inning, as all of the scoring for both
teams took place in that frame.
Senior Kayla
Smith (Lexington, S.C.) had a double to score
Kelsea Martin (Dacula, Ga.) who led off the
game with a walk. Catcher Anna
Parker (Columbus, Ga.) plated Smith on a single, while
leftfielder Belourse Jean-Francis (Naples, Fla.) capped
the scoring with a two-run home run to leftfield, the first of the
junior's career at Georgia College.
The Bearcats got a two run
double in the bottom of the first, but pitching took over after
that.
Burnett (7-9) entered in relief
for the game-two win, scattering three hits over seven shutout
innings.
Sophomore rightfielder
Sabrina Chandler (Covington, Ga.) was
the lone multi-hit performer for GCSU, going 2-for-3.
The Bobcats are back in action
Friday, March 19 at 2:30 p.m. traveling to No. 14 Wingate
University.
