COLUMBUS, Ga.
– The Bobcat baseball team at Georgia
College & State University (12-8, 5-2 PBC) ended Columbus State
University's (22-3, 3-1 PBC) school-record win streak at 21
games Friday night as unranked Georgia College held on to defeat
No. 5 Columbus State 9-7.
Reigning Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week Sean Harrell
(Martinez,
Ga.) extended his hit streak to
seven games. The Bobcat centerfielder led the team going 3-for-4,
including a two-run round tripper in the top of the second and a
solo shot in the ninth. Harrell finished with three runs scored and
four RBI.
Conyers, Ga. native Kyle
Allen went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and
an RBI.
Designated hitter BentonYaun
(Marietta,
Ga.) hit his first home run of
the season, a three-run blast in the third to bring in rightfielder
Shawn Ward
(Marintez,
Ga.) and third baseman Drew
Goodman (Kennewick, Wash.).
Eric Pettepher
(Gordon,
Ga.) recorded his second-straight
win (2-0) pitching five innings allowing four runs off eight hits.
The junior righty stuck out four and walked one.
Lefty Ryan Tabor
(Lawrenceville,
Ga.) tossed the last 1 2/3
innings of relief to get his first save of the season. The senior
came in the bottom of the eighth after the Cougars got a three-run
home run from leftfielder Ryan Lewis. Tabor was able to get out of
the inning and then shut down the Cougars in the bottom of the
ninth after teammate Harrell hit an insurance solo home run to put
the 'Cats up 9-7.
Georgia College and Columbus State finish the three-game series
Saturday, March 20 in a doubleheader with the first game starting
