MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 16 Bobcat
baseball team at Georgia College & State University (18-10, 9-3
PBC) used a six-run fifth inning to topple Clark Atlanta University
14-0 Tuesday night at John Kurtz Field.
Five batters for the Bobcats finished with multi-hit games.
Leftfielder Kyle Allen (Conyers, Ga.), Martinez,
Ga. nativesSean Harrell and Shawn
Ward, infielder Brett
George (Dacula, Ga.) and second baseman Jason
Veyna (Lamar, Colo.) all finished with two hits apiece
for Georgia College.
Harrell had a team-high four RBI, while George, Veyna, shortstop
Chandler Snell (Loganville, Ga.) and
infielderPaul Bordon (Martinez, Ga.) all scored
two runs a piece.
Georgia College scored four runs in the fourth. George hit a
double to knock in Ward and catcher Cody
Maas (Alpharetta, Ga.) followed with a double to score
George. The double by Maas marked his first hit as a Bobcat. Veyna
then ripped a single to get Maas across the plate. Allen also had
an RBI double to score Snell later in the inning.
A six-run fifth put the 'Cats up 11-0 and then GCSU followed
with three runs in the sixth to take the 14-0 lead.
A highlight of the fifth was when Ward hit his first triple of the
season to score designated hitter Richard
Pirkle (Norcross, Ga.).
Allen and Snell both stole two bases. Georgia College has 74
stolen bases on the year with an .813 (74-91) success rate.
Six-foot-four lefty Matt
Kaplan (Alpharetta, Ga.) went five shutout innings for
Georgia College to move to 3-1 on the season. The junior allowed
one hit, walked one and struck out five.
The Bobcats take on Benedict College in a double dip Wednesday,
March 31 starting at 2 p.m. at John Kurtz Field.
