MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - It was a tale of two games
for the No. 23 Georgia College & State University baseball team
(8-6, 1-2 PBC) in Saturday's doubleheader. In game one, the No. 27
North Georgia Saints (13-6, 4-2 PBC) won 12-2 but Bobcats rebounded
in game two, 7-0.
Georgia College shortstop Chandler Snell
(Loganville, Ga.) led the team with two hits in game one,
going 2-for-3 and scoring a run on a Jason Veyna (Lamar,
Colo.) single in the eighth inning. Later that same
inning, centerfielder Sean Harrell (Martinez,
Ga.) knocked in Conyers native Kyle
Allen. Those were the only runs the 'Cats could
manage as they lost 12-2 to North Georgia.
Redshirt-senior Brendon Malkowski
(Schenctady, N.Y.) got the start for the 'Cats. The
righty (2-1) went 2 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits.
Lefty Clete
Jessup (Darien, Ga.) pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief
striking out seven.
The Saints' Craig Brisson went 5-for-6 and Jordan Erisman and Brad
Hall each had three RBI. Blake Hobby (3-1) went seven innings only
giving up three hits and Michael Patton entered in relief for the
final two innings giving up two runs on three hits.
Game two was a completely different game for both teams. The
Bobcats were led by the hot bat of senior Paul Bordon (Martinez,
Ga.) and the outstanding pitching performance from
preseason All-American Martin Dewald
(Mannheim, Germany) as he shut down the Saints for a 7-0
victory.
Bordon hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the
fifth inning, but he wasn't done there. The senior third baseman
followed it with a three-run shot in the seventh. Bordon went
2-for-3 and finished with four RBI.
Milledgeville native Andrew
Evans finished the game with an RBI and Richard Pirkle
(Norcross, Ga.) aided the scoring efforts hitting a double
in the fifth to knock in two.
Dewald (3-1) was on fire throwing the complete game shutout for
Georgia College. Dewald fanned 10 batters and scattered seven
hits.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, March 9 at Erskine College
in Due West, S.C. at 2 p.m.
