SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The
Georgia College & State University softball team (9-16) picked
up a win and a loss Sunday at the Mid-South Classic, falling 7-5 to
Lenoir-Rhyne University before picking up a 5-2 win over Lincoln
Memorial University. Georgia College went 1-4 at the three-day
tournament.
Third baseman Kelsea Martin
(Dacula, Ga.) swatted a leadoff round-tripper to give the
Bobcats an early lead. Martin finished 2-for-3, while Haley Burnett
(Columbus, Ga.) and Kayla Smith
(Lexington, S.C.) each had doubles. Freshman Kristi
Rodriguez (Marietta, Ga.) took the loss in relief.
In game two, Georgia College scored runs on a Brandie Monroe
(Guyton, Ga.) sacrifice fly, and Burnett helped her own
cause with a three-run home run. Smith added an RBI single. Burnett
went the distance in the victory and 2-for-3 at the plate.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, March 9 at 3 p.m.,
playing host to UNC Pembroke in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) action
