VALDOSTA, Ga.
– For the second game in a row, the No. 12
Georgia College & State University baseball team (26-12) went
extra innings, but this time on the losing end falling 8-7 at No.
17 Valdosta State University (32-12) in 13 innings Wednesday.

Ga.) had a team-best four hits
for the Bobcats. Catcher Benton

(Marietta,
Ga.) was second on team with
three hits while second baseman

Veyna (Lamar,
Colo.) and designated hitter
Richard Pirkle
(Norcross,
Ga.) finished with two hits a
piece. The “Nightmare from Norcross” led the team
scoring two runs.
After committing three errors in the first inning and allowing
a run, the Bobcats battled back to score a run of themselves when
Yaun tripled down the right field line to score Ward. The
'Cats then were able to take the 3-1 lead in the fourth when
Yaun scored off a Pirkle double. Pirkle then came across the plate
on a Veyna single over the third baseman's head.
The Bobcats were up 6-2 going into the ninth when the
Blazers' Jordan Yost hit a grand slam to send the game into
extra innings.
In the top of the 13, Ward doubled to left center to bring
Paul Bordon
(Martinez,
Ga.) across the plate to give the
Georgia College the 7-6 advantage.
The Blazers' Don DiPetta doubled to left-center field to
score Chris Jones, who reached on a one-out single. After a walk, a
Ryan Danbury single then sent DiPetta across the plate to give
Valdosta State the 8-7 victory. Righty

(Suwanee,
Ga.) took the loss in relief
(0-2), going 1 1/3 innings.
Georgia College travels to University of Montevallo for a
Peach Belt Conference (PBC) showdown Saturday, April 17 in a
doubleheader with the first game starting at 2 p.m.
