MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Bobcat baseball
team (30-12, 17-4 PBC) at Georgia College & State University is
one of the nation's best in several offensive categories,
according to NCAA National Statistics as of April 18.
The Bobcats average 10.6 runs a game, which is fifth among
Division II schools. As a team Georgia College has batted .357
(17th in county) due mainly to their top three batters, Sean
Harrell (Martinez, Ga.), Kyle Allen
(Conyers, Ga.) and Steve
Muoio (Rochester, N.Y.). Harrell's .478 average
is eighth in the nation, while Allen's .431 average ranks
54th and Muoio ranks 97th hitting .415.
The 'Cats have accumulated 537 hits (14th) as Harrell
leads the team with 76 and is 12th overall in D-II. The team is
ninth in run production with 434 total runs and also ninth in
country with a .573 slugging percentage. Harrell and Allen are in
the country's top-20 in runs per game as Harrell is 11th with
1.56 and Allen is 19th averaging 1.44 runs a contest. Harrell has
scored 64 times this season, which is good enough for 10th in the
nation.
Georgia College hits 1.46 home runs a game (eighth) and has hit
60 (11th) on the season. Not only can the Bobcats knock the ball
out of the yard, they are quite impressive stealing bases, 2.68
swipes a contest, which is eighth in the country. The 'Cats
are also fifth in the nation with 110 total stolen bases.
Matt Pitts (Brunswick, Ga.) has tallied 63
RBI, which is 11th in the field of the nation's top-300 and
the senior is also 13th averaging 1.54 RBI a game.
Allen is third in the country with 1.11 walks per game and
seventh with 40 total base on balls.
Harrell ranks in the top-20 in three other categories. The
senior centerfielder is 17th in total bases (128), 16th in on-base
percentage (.558) and fifth in sacrifice flies (8).
The Bobcats are back in action on the road against North
Greenville University Thursday, April 22 at 3 p.m.
