TIGERVILLE,
S.C. – The No. 10 Georgia
College & State University baseball team (33-12) took two seven
inning games Friday from North Greenville University (37-13)
winning 7-4 and 8-3.
In the first game, the Bobcats used 13 hits to score seven
runs as senior first baseman
Matt Pitts
(Brunswick,
Ga.) led the team going 3-for-4,
scoring once and driving in three. Outfielders
Shawn Ward
(Martinez,
Ga.) and
Kyle Allen
(Conyers,
Ga.) both went 2-for-4 and scored
a run, while Ward had two RBI.
Junior righty Eric
Pettepher (Gordon,
Ga.) went 6 2/3 innings, striking
out nine and allowing four runs to get his sixth win (6-0) on the
2010 campaign as the Bobcats took the 7-4 victory.
In game two, Georgia College took a quick 5-0 lead, scoring
four runs in the first inning. Allen started with a single and then
stole second before scoring on a Sean
Harrell (Martinez,
Ga.) double. Harrell eventually
scored from third on a wild pitch. Ward then singled and Pitts
followed with a home run, his only hit in the game, tallying two
RBI.
Ward and Harrell had a team-high three hits going 3-for-4.
Harrell scored twice and recorded two RBI. Ward added a solo home
run and finished with two RBI, scoring three runs of his own as
Georgia College won 8-3.
Preseason NCBWA All-American Martin
Dewald (Mannheim,
Germany) pitched his fourth
complete game of the season to improve to 8-1. The senior righty
allowed three runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out
eight. Dewald has a team-high eight wins and 76 strikeouts for the
'Cats on the season.
Randy Stegall and Markus Duckworth each recorded three hits in
the two games combined to led the Crusaders.
The Bobcats return to John Kurtz Field for the final home game
of the regular season Wednesday, April 28 against No. 22 Erskine
College at 6 p.m.
