DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (10-29, 5-7 PBC) dropped their first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) doubleheader of the season Tuesday at No. 4 North Georgia (30-8, 6-2 PBC). The Bobcats fell in a close contest 3-1 in game two after dropping the first game 8-0.
Georgia College fell behind 2-0 in game two, but cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the sixth.
Freshman Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.) led the inning off with an infield single, followed by a bunt single from senior Kati Pickowitz (Keller, Texas).
A Haley Burnett (Columbus, Ga.) single would drive in the Bobcats' only run of the afternoon. North Georgia pushed it back out of reach with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
For the game, the 'Cats and the Saints matched each other with seven hits apiece. Okvist and Pickowitz each went 2-for-3.
Burnett (1-11) was the hard luck loser for GC, going six strong innings allowing just two earned runs.
The story of game one revolved around Saint pitcher Jessica Coan (14-3), who went all five innings allowing just one hit. Junior Sabrina Chandler (Covington, Ga.) went 3 1/3 innings allowing four earned runs in the loss (7-11).
Okvist provided the Bobcats only hit in the top of the third, which was a bunt single.
The Bobcats will look to right the ship against No. 24 Armstrong Atlantic Monday, March 28 beginning at 3 p.m. at the Peeler Complex. That doubleheader makes four consecutive games against teams in the nation's top-25.
