#9 GC Baseball Drops Pair at #12 UNCP Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The No. 9 Georgia College baseball team (24-13, 9-8 PBC) dropped a pair of low scoring games Saturday at No. 12 UNC Pembroke (31-7, 12-7 PBC) 4-2 and 4-3.

In game one, a three-run first got UNCP off on the right foot. Josh Bagley improved to 4-2 with the 7 2/3 innings of work, allowing both runs. Lefty starter Mike Guinane (Glenview, Ill.) was the hard-luck loser, tossing a complete game with six strikeouts and two earned runs.

The Bobcats got a run in the first and the eighth, but couldn't inch any closer. The lone multi-hit performer of the game was centerfielder Patrick Daugherty (Kennesaw, Ga.), going 2-for-4 with a run. GC managed just four hits.

Game two was more of the same, as the Bobcats were handcuffed to just six safeties. UNCP starter Brad Isom (7-2) threw seven strong innings, allowing just one unearned run. Senior righty Eric Pettepher (Gordon, Ga.) took the loss (4-3), throwing six innings and allowing all four runs with six whiffs.

GC cut a 4-1 lead to 4-3 in a hurry in the eighth, as rightfielder Shawn Ward (Evans, Ga.) led off with a double and scored on catcher Richard Pirkle's (Norcross, Ga.) two-run home run to left center. The UNCP pitching staff settled down after that, however and got the final five outs without another hit.

Pirkle finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and two runs. Leftfielder Josh Young (Lake Havasu City, Ariz.) added a double and a single in three trips.

The Bobcats look to salvage a win as the three-game series wraps up Sunday at 1 p.m.
