Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Getting a balanced
effort of four double-digit scorers, the Georgia College men's
basketball team (15-8, 8-6 PBC) picked up a big Peach Belt
Conference (PBC) West Division win over North Georgia (9-16, 4-10
PBC) 75-70 Wednesday night at the Centennial Center.
Senior forward Mike Augustine
(Waterloo, Ill.) led all scorers with 18 points, hitting
5-of-9 from the floor and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe. He added
eight rebounds, including five on the offensive glass, and four
assists. Classmate Ryan Aquino (Roswell,
Ga.) was a boxscore filler with 16 points, blocking four
shots, pulling in six rebounds, adding three assists and three
steals.
Sophomore guard Aaron Robinson
(Lawrenceville, Ga.) had 13 points to go with four assists
and three steals, while senior Jared Holmes
(Indianapolis) recorded 12 points, five rebounds and four
steals.
The Bobcats were actually out-shot 50 percent (27-54) to 43
percent (26-61) from the floor, but made eight more free throws
(19-11) and pulled down six more offensive rebounds (14-8) to help
seal the win.
North Georgia also recorded four double-digit scorers, as Chaun
Tinney led the way with 14 points. Elijah Smith had 13, Clarence
Tillman 12 and Pat Moynihan 10.
GC led for the entire second half, the last Saint lead coming at
the 6:30 mark of the first frame. The lead would reach its apex at
the 10:48 mark, a 51-38 advantage after a Scott Ferguson
(Roswell, Ga.) layup, his only points of the game.
The victory closes out the Bobcats' season at home in 2011-12, a
year that saw them go 8-3 in the Centennial Center. The win also
clinches a PBC Tournament spot for the Bobcats, as they now stand
at 8-6 in league play, tied for second place in the PBC West.
The Bobcats will hit the road for the first time in over three
weeks when they travel to West Division leader University of
Montevallo Saturday, Feb. 18 at 4:30 p.m.
