GC Baseball Beats West Georgia, 10-7

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Georgia College baseball team (23-15) won at the University of West Georgia (19-17) 10-7 Wednesday night in non-conference action.

GC jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead after two frames and never looked back.

The Bobcats ripped three doubles among their 14 hits, designated hitter Cody Maas (Alpharetta, Ga.) tagging one as part of his 2-for-5 effort, driving in two. Second baseman Jeremy Donaldson (Winder, Ga.) was 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Third baseman Travis Echols (Suwanee, Ga.) was 2-for-5 with three runs and one driven in, while shortstop Tanner Funk (Kearney, Mo.) had a 2-for-5 day as well, plating one and scoring twice. Rightfielder Bryce Williams (Manhattan, Kan.) was 2-for-4 on the day.

Lefty starter Matt Kaplan (Alpharetta, Ga.) went a solid four innings, allowing one run with just three hits. Righty Derek McGowan (Raytown, Mo.) got the win, tossing the seventh and eighth innings scoreless with one hit, improving to 4-4.

Wolf starter Alex Wilson (2-2) took the loss as he couldn't escape the five-run second inning. West Georgia third baseman Andy Marinelli hit 3-for-4 and drove in four.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. traveling to Augusta State University for doubleheader action.
