Late Surge Downs Bobcat Men at Clayton State, 65-59

Box Score

MORROW, Ga. – The Georgia College men's basketball team (7-11, 3-8 PBC) controlled the much of the game Thursday night, but fell prey to a late run by Clayton State University (9-10, 5-7 PBC) in a 65-59 Bobcat loss.

The Bobcats led at halftime 36-27 and Clayton State battled back, overtaking the game for good with just 1:43 remaining.

Senior forward Scott Ferguson (Roswell, Ga.) posted 27 points with seven rebounds, helping the Bobcats to that first-half advantage with 19 first-frame points. The next-highest scorers tallied six points each, as the Bobcats got that number from David Wagner (Dallas, Ga.) and Nate Hamilton (Snellville, Ga.).

The Bobcats were out-shot 40 percent (22-55) to 36 percent (20-56). Georgia College hit seven three-pointers, getting three from Ferguson and a pair from Hamilton. Clayton State had a 41-34 advantage on the glass.

Center Andrew Bachanov put up an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double to power the Laker attack, aided by 17 points from Omari Murray and 12 from Juron Dobbs. Murray was the catalyst in the second-half comeback, netting 13 of 17 points after halftime.

The loss puts the Bobcats at 3-8 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, positioned seventh in the PBC West, with the top four advancing to the playoffs in mid-March. Georgia College is just one game in the loss column behind the tie for fourth.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 2 at 3:30 p.m., hosting Columbus State University.
