Bobcat Soccer Takes Runner-Up Honors at PBC Championship

Box Score

EVANS, Ga. – The dream run for No. 6-seed Georgia College soccer (10-7-3) in the 2013 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament came to a close on championship Sunday, as the Bobcats fell in a penalty-kick shootout to No. 1-seed Clayton State University (12-3-6). After 110 minutes of soccer, the teams reached the shootout knotted up at 2-2.

The Lakers won the shootout 4-2, getting goals from all four they sent up, the final one coming from Saidhbh Collins. A last-minute goal from Jahmela Williams set the table for the thrilling shootout.

After a scoreless first half, Georgia College took a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute, as Ashley Veilleux (Monroe, Ga.) took a deflected cross and pounded it into the back of the net.

Lois Edvardsson got the team's first equalizer in the 77th minute, making good on a pass from Denisha Paskell for Edvardsson's sixth goal of the year.

Freshman Cayce Hamilton (Duluth, Ga.) put the Bobcats back in front with a sliding goal from the right side, taking a well-placed pass from Alex Giles (Dacula, Ga.) just inside the right post. Hamilton's fifth goal of the season came with just 4:58 remaining in the match.

With less than a minute left, Clayton's Jahmela Williams cracked a seeming desperation shot from over 20 yards out, bending it to the top left of the goal for a 2-2 game.

The overtime periods were highly defensive, the teams combining for just four shots to set up the shootout.

Freshman Jessica Catapano (Alpharetta, Ga.) recorded a career-high 10 saves in 110 minutes of action, earning a spot on the PBC All-Tournament Team with Rebekah Autry (Winder, Ga.) and Abby Dalton (Macon, Ga.).

Georgia College beat the No. 3-seed Armstrong Atlantic State University Tuesday, and added the program's first win over No. 2-seed Columbus State University Friday prior to today's action. No team has ever beaten the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 seed in the PBC Women's Soccer Tournament.
