AUGUSTA, Ga. – It took triple overtime, but the Georgia College men's basketball team (1-1) dropped its first game of the young 2012-13 season Friday night, losing 100-98 to Albany State University (1-1) in the first day of the Paine College Classic.

Sophomore guard Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Fla.) scored 30 points in just his second game as a Bobcat, hitting 12-of-18 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Harris is the first 30-point performer for the Bobcats since Jared Holmes scored 30 in a win over Belmont Abbey College Nov. 19, 2011.

With less than 30 seconds left, the Golden Rams' Darshtyn Baker made good on a three-point play to give ASU a 69-69 lead. Georgia College tied the game on the next possession, hitting one of two free-throws. A last-second try by Albany State was off the mark, with both teams headed to overtime.

Harris hit a layup in transition with 38 seconds left in the first overtime for a 80-78 lead. This time, it was Baker getting the equalizer with 18 seconds remaining, and a Bobcat try missing at the buzzer.

In overtime number two, Demetri Wheeler provided the 88-86 advantage with over a minute left. After a couple of misses for both teams, Larrentis Thomas (McDonough, Ga.) fought for a game-tying tip-in as time expired.

In the third overtime, a 99-95 advantage was cut to just 99-98 with seven ticks left by a Ryan Blumenthal (Kennesaw, Ga.) three-point bucket. On the ensuing foul, the Rams made one of two free-throws with four seconds remaining, but the Bobcats couldn't get the tying or game-winning shot.

Blumenthal recorded his first career 20-point game, hitting for exactly that with two assists and three steals. Senior Royal Thomas (LaGrange, Ga.) posted his first career double-double at 13 points and 10 rebounds. Larrentis Thomas had a double-double of his own, adding 15 points and 13 rebounds off the bench.

The Rams had two 20-point scorers, as Baker and Jamorris Gaines had 23-points each, flanked by 19 from Larry Bullock.

The loss ends a seven-season streak of the Bobcats winning their first contest away from the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats out-rebounded the Rams 58-43, including a 23-11 advantage on the offensive glass. Georgia College was edged in shooting 40 percent (33-82) to 45 percent (34-75).

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m., taking on host Paine College.
