Bobcat Upset Bid Falls Just Short at #24 GSW, 75-73

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia College men's basketball team (3-2, 1-1 PBC) took on its first nationally-ranked opponent of the young season Saturday, falling at No. 24 Georgia Southwestern State University (9-0, 1-0 PBC), 75-70.

The Bobcats took the second half 48-41, but fell victim to an outstanding shooting effort from the Hurricanes overall. GSW knocked down 53 percent (24-45) of its shots for the game compared to a solid 44 percent (28-63) night from Georgia College.

Guards Aaron Robinson (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Ryan Blumenthal (Kennesaw, Ga.) shared the team lead at 14 points. Robinson's scoring was his first double-digit game of the year, while Blumenthal went 5-for-9 with a pair of threes on the day.

Senior Royal Thomas (LaGrange, Ga.) had 12 points with seven rebounds, and sophomore Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Fla.) had a 10-point performance, reaching double-digits on a three-pointer with 11 seconds left.

The Hurricanes also put four in double-digit scoring, as Johathan Brooks netted 20 to lead the way. Daryl Davis had a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double, and Darius Redding was perfect from the floor (6-6) en route to 16 points. Kevin Burnell rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10.

The Bobcats got threes from Blumenthal and Harris in the final minute, but couldn't inch any closer than the two-point finish.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m., traveling to Clark Atlanta University, in a return to non-conference action.
