LaMothe, Bobcats Blank Clark Atlanta, 12-0

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Compiling 14 strikeouts over 7 2/3 shutout innings, senior righty Matt LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) pitched the Georgia College baseball team (4-3) past Clark Atlanta University (3-3) 12-0 Friday night at John Kurtz Field. The 14 whiffs was the most for a Bobcat pitcher since Michael Antonini struck out 14 North Greenville University batters Feb. 16, 2007.

The game was tight for the first five innings, just a 1-0 lead for the Bobcats after Clay Ardeeser's (Loganville, Ga.) double set up a Jake Sandlin (Evans, Ga.) sacrifice fly.

The floodgates opened up in the sixth, as Georgia College scored 11 runs over a three-inning stretch. Ardeeser had a big blow in the six-run eighth, smacking a three-run home run over the fence in right center.

Ardeeser finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs, while Sandlin was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run. Add in Jeremy Donaldson's (Winder, Ga.) 3-for-4 with an RBI, and the 6-7-8 slots went a combined 8-for-11 with seven RBI and four runs.

Ryan Sabalaskey (Carol Stream, Ill.) and Cody Maas (Alpharetta, Ga.) each went 2-for-4, Maas driving in two with a run scored, and Sabalaskey scoring twice and plating one.

LaMothe (2-1) threw 107 pitches, scattering four singles and a single walk over his 7 2/3 innings. Austin Clark (Whitesburg, Ga.), Christian Bragg (Augusta, Ga.) and Jordan Brooks (Macon, Ga.) combined to finish out the final four outs.

Demarcus Taylor (0-2) took the loss in six innings of work, allowing just three runs. Rightfielder Manuel Gaspar was 2-for-4 on the day.

The Bobcats close out the three-game set tomorrow, Feb. 16 with a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
