Box Score

by Trevor Kuss, sports information assistant

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College baseball team (13-7) scored nine unanswered runs on a blustery Wednesday afternoon at John Kurtz Field on their way to a decisive 9-6 victory over the University of West Georgia (15-7).

Pitching and defense hurt the Bobcats early, as the Wolves pushed six runs across in the first inning and sent 11 batters to the plate.

The Georgia College offense pieced together four runs in the bottom of the second inning, highlighted by a Mikee Moore (Dunwoody, Ga.) double that scored Ryan Sabalaskey (Carol Stream, Ill.) and Chris McCoy (Battle Creek, Mich.).

Patrick Olvaney (Alpharetta, Ga.) settled down after entering as a reliever in the first inning, holding the Wolves offense in check for the second and third innings. John Clark (Duluth, Ga.) entered in the fourth inning and worked two scoreless innings.

The Bobcats would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring three runs on four hits and two walks. McCoy walked with the bases loaded to push the go-ahead run across the plate.

Jordan Modine (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) and Christian Bragg (Augusta, Ga.) worked three scoreless innings, as Bragg faced only six batters over two perfect frames.

Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.) finished off the scoring for the Bobcats, as he came around in the eighth inning on a Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) single.

Matt LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) only needed 10 pitches in the ninth inning for his second save of the season, tying him for fourth most in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC).

Clark earned the win, improving to 3-1 on the year.

Ardeeser extended his 18-game hitting streak, going 2-for-5 at the plate and scoring three runs. Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) was 2-for-4, scoring one run and knocking in another.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m. hosting Francis Marion University.
