#25 GC Baseball Postseason Run comes to a Close with 7-2 Loss in Final Day of Regional Tournament

Box Score

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The dream run for No. 25 Georgia College baseball (36-19) came to a close Sunday, as the Bobcats fell 7-2 to No. 30 Coker College (38-14) on championship day at the 2013 NCAA Southeast Regional.

The scoring started early, as Coker put two up in the very first inning. After an RBI single by centerfielder Ikaika Anderson (Austell, Ga.) made it a 2-1 deficit, the Cobras struck for five runs over the fifth and sixth innings.

The Bobcats inched closer with a big solo blast off the bat of catcher Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) in the top of the ninth, but the rally would stop there.

Coker starter Dan Meyer (8-3) went the distance, surrendering nine hits for a pair of runs and fanning six. The loss went to Bobcat starter Justin Blue (Mulberry, Fla.) falling to 8-4. Righty reliever Jordan Brooks (Macon, Ga.) was solid in relief holding the Cobra bats hitless over the final 2 2/3 innings.

Shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) was 2-for-4, with second baseman Rob Hogenkamp (St. Louis) adding a 2-for-3 effort.

After the final out, the Southeast Regional All-Tournament Team was announced, featuring four Georgia College players in Hazel, Hogenkamp, Bick and pitcher Christian Bragg (Augusta, Ga.).

The season comes to a close for the Bobcats, a year that saw Georgia College win its first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament Championship, coming two wins shy of going to the Division II College World Series.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
