MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women's soccer team (2-7-1, 0-5 PBC) had a tall order to fill as they took on Peach Belt Conference (PBC) defending champions Clayton State University (10-1, 5-0 PBC). The Bobcats could not stop a sound Laker squad as they fell 4-0.
Freshman Meredith Carson (Alpharetta) made her Bobcat debut in the second half. The Lakers took a total of 17 shots, 14 of those coming in the second half. Carson kept her composure well, pulling in seven saves.
The Bobcats showed life in the start of the match, putting up a strong defensive front. Slowly the Lakers chipped away and leading scorer Maria Marti Bartis netted the first goal of the match in the 17th minute. Just three minutes later, through a collision with the keeper, Lucy Cunningham scored the second goal. Cunningham then made the match 3-0 when a chip shot deep inside the box in the 86th minute. With 19 seconds left Jameela Bryant netted the final goal.
Georgia College will be back in action Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. as they take on Young Harris College.
