Bobcats Drop Tight Three-Setter to Francis Marion

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College volleyball team (7-8, 2-6 PBC) saw its bid for a first three-match win streak fall short Saturday, edged in three sets by Francis Marion University (5-9, 3-3 PBC) in the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats rallied from an early hole in set one, but couldn't pull off the comeback, falling in extra points 28-26. Momentum carried for FMU into set two, another 25-16 victory before closing it out in a hard-fought third 25-23.

Attacking for the Bobcats was evenly spread, with no one recording double-digit kills. Miller Howard (Suwanee) led with nine, flanked by eight from Maggie Roper (Buford) and seven from Bailey Freeman (Hillsborough, North Carolina).

"We've got a long week of practice ahead of us, which is good," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "It will be good to step back and focus on some of the basics on hitting and do some position training. It's hard to get those kind of items in during the season."

Setter Mollie Michel (Peachtree City) had 25 assists, adding seven digs and five kills to a full line. Junior Ella Anastasiades (Atlanta) was busy once again with 21 digs, Roper joining her in double digits with 10.

Alexzandra Reed had 13 kills and 10 digs to pace the Patriots. Sloane Shank had 30 assists and Carlie Smith recorded 13 digs. The serve proved feast or famine for FMU, balancing 10 aces out with 10 errors. Caroline Boone had half of the ace total.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m., hosting GRU Augusta.
