AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Georgia College volleyball team's (7-20, 2-16 PBC) season came to a close Wednesday night after a 3-0 loss to GRU Augusta (24-7, 13-5 PBC).

"This was another good season of building and growing the program," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "I am very proud of this team for working hard every day. Our future is very bright and we are looking forward to getting back on the court during the off-season."

The third-ranked team in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) struck fast in the first set, topping the Bobcats 25-16. Momentum from the first bled over into the second set for the Jaguars as they won 25-15. The Bobcats battled in the third set, maintaining a close score before being overcome 25-20.

Freshman Maggie Roper (Buford) and Bailey Freeman (Hillsborough, North Carolina), along with sophomores Miller Howard (Suwanee) and Caroline Long (Roswell) registered six kills each. Action on the front row was very close as the Bobcats totaled 30 to the Jaguars' 38.

Junior Ella Anastasiades (Atlanta) led the back row for the Bobcats with 13 digs. She closes out the season, ranking third in the PBC averaging 4.88 digs per set. Freeman remained true to form, leading the defense at the net with four blocks on the night. She remains at the top of the conference, averaging 1.14 blocks per set. She eclipsed the single-season Bobcat record posting 80 blocks for the season, originally set by Ashley Savransky (Roswell) with 62.

The loss brings to a close the 2014 march for Bobcat volleyball. Georgia College finished 7-20 overall and posting a 2-16 conference mark.
