Ardeeser's Bombs Help #27 Bobcats to Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Junior first baseman Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.) drove in six runs over the course of doubleheader action Monday, helping the No. 27 Georgia College baseball team (29-12, 16-8 PBC) past Young Harris College (24-23, 12-15 PBC) 10-6 and 10-4 at John Kurtz Field. The victories helped the Bobcats to a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series sweep, the third PBC series sweep this season for GC baseball.

In game one, the Bobcats had a 5-3 lead after three, busting it open with a three-run fourth and a two-run seventh.

Righty Justin Blue (Mulberry, Fla.) had a solid start, going six innings with two earned runs, fanning four to improve to 5-3. Jordan Modine (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) got the last out for his fourth save.

Designated hitter Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) had three hits and three RBI, while shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI.

Rob Hogenkamp (St. Louis) and Jake Sandlin (Evans, Ga.) each went 2-for-3, Hogenkamp scoring once and driving in another, while Sandlin scored twice. Leftfielder Ryan Sabalaskey (Carol Stream, Ill.) scored four times from the leadoff spot on four walks.

In game two, the Mountain Lions cut the early Bobcat lead to 5-4 on a home run in the sixth, but Georgia College scored the final five runs to take the sweep.

Ardeeser hit a three-run home run in the third and a solo shot in the eighth, finishing 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs. Second baseman Brandon Benson (Loganville, Ga.) was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI, while Bick had two hits in four trips and scored a pair of runs.

Catcher Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) and third baseman Mike McGraw (Newnan, Ga.) had identical 2-for-4 efforts, each driving in two runs and scoring another. Sandlin finished 2-for-4 with a run as every Bobcat starter had at least one hit in game two.

Starter Josh Taylor (Phoenix) went six innings of his own with four runs and three strikeouts. Taylor improves to 6-2, turning the game over to Micah Thompson (Tallapoosa, Ga.) and Modine for the final three frames. The duo didn't allow a hit, Thompson for two innings and Modine for the ninth.

The win makes Georgia College 16-8 in PBC play, good for third in the conference standings. The Bobcats have six league games left on the schedule, have clinched a PBC Playoff spot, and trail a first-place tie by two games in the loss column.

The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, April 24 at 2 p.m., playing host to Winston Salem State University.
