#24 Bobcat Baseball Upended by North Georgia, 16-11

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – A five-run rally in the ninth, and 12 runs in the final three innings helped down the No. 24 Georgia College baseball team (33-14, 19-10 PBC), as the University of North Georgia (21-27, 9-20 PBC) edged the Bobcats 16-11 Sunday. The Nighthawks take the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series 2-1 at John Kurtz Field.

Both Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) and Mike McGraw (Newnan, Ga.) hit home runs in the loss.

Shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) and centerfielder Rob Hogenkamp (St. Louis) had three hits each, Bick scoring three and driving in one, while Hogenkamp scored one and added another RBI.

Hazel finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Designated hitter Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) had two hits in five trips, driving in a pair and scoring one, while second baseman Brandon Benson (Loganville, Ga.) had two hits and a run scored.

Righty reliever Jordan Brooks (Macon, Ga.) took the loss (3-2) in just under two innings of work. Christian Turnipseed improved to 3-2 with the win in relief for North Georgia.

The loss puts Georgia College at fourth in the PBC standings, 19-10 in conference play. It appears as though the Bobcats will take on No. 5-seed UNC Pembroke to start the PBC Tournament next weekend, with an official announcement of the tournament bracket to come from the conference office soon.
