COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Georgia College volleyball squad (3-2, 0-1 PBC) fell during their first match at a tournament hosted by Columbus State University Friday, 3-1. They opened the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schedule against the University of Montevallo (3-4, 1-0 PBC).

After dropping the first set 25-16, the Bobcats showed life, beating the Falcons 25-13. One win was not enough to keep the momentum going, and the Bobcats fell in the last two sets 25-16 and 25-21.

Freshman Maggie Roper (Buford) led the squad once again with a double-double; 11 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore Ashley Savransky (Roswell) was close behind, adding 10 kills of her own. Defending Bobcat Athlete of the Week Mollie Michel (Peachtree City) almost matched her career high with 33 assists, accompanied by 10 digs.

The Bobcat defense was out-matched with 49 digs to Montevallo's 59. Three Falcons had double-digit kills. Katie Best led with 15, while Rebekah Phelps and Kristy Bohan had 10.

Georgia College will continue in the Columbus State Tournament Saturday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. against Mars Hill College and close with Brevard College at 2:30 p.m.
