COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Georgia College volleyball squad (4-3, 0-1 PBC) battled in two matches Saturday on the last day of the Cougar Invitational at Columbus State University. The Bobcats started the day with a 3-1 victory over Mars Hill University (1-6, 0-0 SAC), but unfortunately fell in three sets Brevard College (6-1, 0-0 SAC).

The Bobcats picked up their tempo after dropping the first set against Mars Hill 26-24. They held the Lions under 20 points the rest of the match, winning 25-14, 25-17, and 25-15. Freshman Maggie Roper (Buford) recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 18 digs. Miller Howard (Suwanee) added 15 kills of her own to the cause. The Bobcat defense made a stellar effort throughout the match putting up 79 digs to the Lions' 65. Defensive specialist Ella Anastasiades (Atlanta) led with 25 digs and Lindsey Holmes (Norcross) aided with 11. The team's front row took command the entire match with a .224 kill percentage, while the Lions ended with .070.

Georgia College's match against Brevard was nothing short of wild and crazy. The Bobcats fell in three sets 25-17, 25-16, and 26-28, but only after a venue change in the middle of the third set. Due to weather the main court gathered unplayable amounts of moisture and caused the match to be moved to Columbus State's recreation center. After an hour delay, play continued with the Bobcats leading 19-17. Unfortunately, the Bobcats would not hold onto their lead. Howard slammed down 12 kills, giving her a total of 32 for the tournament. Anastasiades, Roper, and Mollie Michel (Peachtree City) shared the defensive load with 17, 10, and 12 digs, respectively.

The Bobcats next match will be this season's home opener Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. against Flagler College.
