GC Men's Hoops Drops Overtime Battle at North Georgia, 87-81

Box Score

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Georgia College men's basketball team (7-5, 1-2 PBC) took one of the better squads in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) to the limit Saturday, falling at the University of North Georgia (9-1, 3-0 PBC) 87-81 in overtime.

Junior Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Florida) scored 27 points and senior Larrentis Thomas (McDonough) posted an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double to keep things tight for the Bobcats.

The 20-point performance was the 16th in Harris' Bobcat career, and his fifth this season. Thomas now owns six double-doubles this year, and 16 overall. Junior guard Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) chipped in with 15 points, his seventh double-digit scoring effort of the year.

The tightly-contested ballgame featured 12 lead changes and eight ties. Neither team had the benefit of a double-digit lead. Sophomore Kelvin Nwanze (Lagos, Nigeria/Archer High (Ga.)) put the Bobcats up 74-72 with eight seconds left in regulation on a pair of free-throws—his only two points of the game—but the Nighthawks' Corey Green worked his way to the free-throw line to tie the game up with a pair of his own before the horn.

In overtime, the Bobcats were out-scored 13-7, with Harris scoring all seven points in the extra frame. UNG's Travis Core hit the final four free-throws to seal the game for the Nighthawks.

The Bobcats were out-shot 44 percent (27-61) to 43 percent (30-70) from the floor, and were out-rebounded 42-37. The Georgia College defense was aggressive, resulting in a 24-16 advantage in turnovers caused.

Core led the Nighthawks off the bench with 16 points, flanked by 12 from Tanner Plemmons. The UNG bench out-scored Georgia College 42-9.

The Bobcats are back in action Monday, Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Georgia Southwestern State University.
