MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Taking on a 2014 NCAA Tournament Qualifier, the Georgia College volleyball team (9-9, 4-6 PBC) was swept in three sets by Augusta University (13-6, 5-4 PBC) Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats fared the best in the second set, the scores going 25-13, 25-21 and 25-16.
"I think the difference today was that Augusta did a better job keeping the ball off the floor," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "We need to focus on getting back to our brand of scrappy Bobcat volleyball. We'll focus on defense and serve receive this week in practice; those two items are the key to picking up more wins."
The Bobcats were out-hit .279 to .103, with Georgia College posting 28 kills on the day to 39 by the Jaguars. A trio of Bobcats paced the attack with just six kills each, as Miller Howard (Suwanee), Ebony Powers (Jacksonville, Florida) and Caroline Long (Roswell) tallied those six kills each. Powers did so in just two sets of work, however.
Freshman Kayla Brockway (Jacksonville, Florida) had 23 assists. Leading the team in digs was Long with nine, she also tallied three total blocks for a full stat line.
The loss puts the Bobcats at 4-6 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, putting the Bobcats eighth in the most recent conference standings. The top eight teams advance to the PBC Tournament in November.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m., playing host to USC Aiken (17-3, 6-3 PBC). The Pacers play at Lander University Oct. 21.
