MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College volleyball team (9-11, 4-8 PBC) was swept in three sets Saturday by Lander University (20-8, 8-4 PBC) at the Centennial Center, but the match proved much tighter than the final result.

Two of the three sets required extra points, as the Bearcats won by 28-26, 25-19 and 27-25 scores.

Junior Caroline Long (Roswell) made her way into double-digit kills for the fifth time this season, putting down 10 with 14 digs, her third double-double of the year.

Flanking Long in the attack was sophomore Bailey Freeman (Hillsbourough, North Carolina) with nine kills and four blocks, as well as freshman Ebony Powers (Jacksonville, Florida) at eight kills and three blocks.

Rookie Kayla Brockway (Jacksonville, Florida) led the team with 35 assists and 12 digs, posting her eighth double-double of the year. Leading the squad in digs, however was sophomore Katie Ray (Cumming) with 18, while senior Ella Anastasiades (Atlanta) added 12.

Brockway's effort put her up over the 600-assist mark for the season, as she now totals 620 on the year.

The loss puts Georgia College at 4-8 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, positioned eighth in the league standings. The top eight teams advance to the PBC Tournament in November.

The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, Oct. 27 playing in doubleheader against the University of Montevallo and the University of West Georgia on the UWG campus.
