MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball team (4-2) won both games of its doubleheader Saturday against 2014 NCAA Regional host Anderson University (4-2) by scores of 9-3 and 6-0.
The first game of the day saw the Bobcats come out swinging, scoring all nine of their runs in the first four innings. Georgia College tallied 11 hits, with sophomore Danielle Bernstein (Cumming) and freshman Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill) recording multi-hit efforts. Bernstein was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Coursey went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run.
Defending Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Pitcher of the Week Marisa Boyette (Marietta) threw her third complete game of the season, giving up three runs over seven innings, while notching eight strikeouts and improving her record to 3-0 on the year.
It was one inning in the second game of the day that gave the Bobcats all they would need to pull out the sweep. Some sixth inning magic saw Georgia College score six runs and hit two home runs. Sophomore Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) helped herself leading off the inning with a solo home run to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Lewis finished the game 2-for-3, raising her season average to .444.
Reigning PBC Player of the Week Taylor Campbell (Warner Robins) hit her second home run of the season in the same inning, a three-run blast to left field. Campbell also notched two hits in the win as her average is now at .524. Lewis got her first win of the season in the circle, throwing a complete game shutout and recording five strikeouts.
The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, Feb. 8 at home against Albany State University. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
