Box Score TAMPA, Fla. – For the second-straight game, the No. 26 Georgia College baseball team (0-3) had a small early lead at No. 2 University of Tampa (6-0), only to lose late. The Bobcats dropped Sunday's contest 7-2.
The Bobcats were up 2-1 headed to the bottom of the second inning, thanks to a Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Georgia) RBI single and another run coming in on a Tampa error.
The Spartans responded with a four-run bottom of the second, never looking back for the 7-2 victory. Tampa starter Brad Hencke (1-0) allowed just the one earned run over five innings, turning things over to four different members of the Spartan bullpen to finish it out.
Rightfielder Jake Sandlin (Evans, Georgia) went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Starter Austin Dykes (Sylvester, Georgia) took the loss (0-1) in 1 1/3 innings of work. The Bobcats threw five different arms at Tampa, freshman Cameron Busby (Grovetown, Georgia) having the best day with three scoreless innings, fanning a pair and allowing just one hit.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. for their home opener, playing host to Newberry College at John Kurtz Field.
