Slam Defeats Bobcat Baseball at North Georgia, 9-4

Box Score

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Surrendering a grand slam in the fourth inning was just about all it took for Georgia College baseball (5-10, 1-6 PBC) to fall 9-4 at the University of North Georgia (11-5, 7-0 PBC) Friday night.

With the game knotted up 1-1 in the fourth but the bases loaded, UNG's Andrew Gordon ripped the first of his two home runs of the day to help the Nighthawks take over 5-1. The Bobcats inched a run closer in the sixth, but a two-run response for UNG pushed it further out of reach.

Shortstop Brandon Benson (Loganville) finished with three hits in five trips, scoring two runs. First baseman Clay Ardeeser (Loganville) added a 2-for-2 effort, driving in one and scoring another, while catcher Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Michigan) tallied a pair of hits in four tries, scoring one run. The trio amounted for seven of the team's nine hits.

Rightfielder Dylan Cook's (Portola Valley, California) RBI single in the eighth helped the junior extend his hit streak to all 15 games this season.

Starter Jake Anthony (Canton) fell to 1-2 with the loss in four innings of work. A six-inning outing for UNG's Brandon Agar improved his record to 3-2, while Taylor Keinat tossed the final three frames for his first save. Gordon finished 2-for-4 with the two home runs, six RBI and two runs scored.

The Bobcats finish off the three-game Peach Belt Conference (PBC) set with doubleheader action tomorrow, March 7 beginning at 1 p.m.
