Bobcat Softball Tosses No-Hitter En Route to Two-Game Sweep of FVSU

MILLEDGEVILLE, GA A delayed started did not stop the Georgia College softball team (21-3, 2-0 PBC) from extending their winning streak to 12 games, after sweeping Fort Valley State University (2-10, 2-0 SIAC) with a 8-0 game one win and a 25-0 game two win.

Game one was highlighted by a combined no-hitter for the Bobcats as Marisa Boyette (Marietta) and Cassidy Rice (DuQuoin, Illinois) shut down the Wildcats, 8-0. Boyette tossed three strong innings for Georgia College, fanning eight of the nine batters faced. The perfect game was lost for the Bobcats when Boyette hit Courtney Myles in the third inning.  Rice relieved Boyette in the fourth, tossing two more shutout innings for Georgia College. She ended the contest with two strikeouts, finishing off the no-hitter for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats were led offensively by Kristen Brooks (Brunswick), who finished game one with two hits and three runs. Brooks also added two steals for the contest. Abi LeRoy (Dublin) and Taylor Campbell (Warner Robins) drove in two runs each for the Bobcats. LeRoy went 1-for-2 with two walks, and the game's only double. Campbell had a similar line adding one hit on two official at-bats with one walk. Georgia College managed to make the most of their six hits, adding eight runs for the contest.

The Wildcats had three errors and six walks, allowing the Bobcats to take advantage of the mistakes and taking the game in five innings.
Alexis Ricks took the loss for the first game of the afternoon, giving up five earned runs on six hits in four innings of work. The only player to reach base for the Wildcats was Myles, reaching on a hit by pitch.

The second game of the day saw the Bobcats score 25 runs, making the outpour a season high. Georgia College had 18 hits in game two in 33 at-bats. Baylee Hall (Hepzibah) led the squad with five hits in five at-bats for game two. Hall also led the Bobcats with four RBI, tying for the team lead with Brooks to cap the double-header. Brooks swiped two more stolen bases of the teams three for the second contest. Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill) plated five runs for Georgia College in the 25-0 drumming of the Wildcats, adding two hits in three plate appearances with two walks to cap off game.

Going the distance for the Bobcats was Rice, ending the game with five innings pitched, only giving up one hit and adding eight strikeouts. The win marks Rice's first of the season and the sophomore finished with 10 strikeouts on the day.

Crystal Richardson took the loss for game two for Fort Valley State, going 2 1/3 innings, giving up 17 earned runs on 12 hits. Finishing the contest was game one starter, Ricks giving up six more hits and three earned runs.

The Bobcats will look to improve their now-12 game winning streak against GRU Augusta tomorrow in Augusta. First pitch is set for 2 p.m., with a second game to follow at 4 p.m.
