Bobcat Baseball Falls at Lander 14-5

Box Score

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Georgia College baseball team (21-15, 9-10 PBC) fell 14-5 Friday night at 2014 World Series participant Lander University (21-21, 10-15 PBC).

The Bobcats nearly kept pace with the Bearcats in hits, trailing just 15-13, but Lander took better advantage of scoring opportunities.

Georgia College actually struck first, as centerfielder Jake Sandlin (Evans, Georgia) led off the game with a solo home run to right-center. Lander rebounded quickly, taking the lead on a two-run single in the bottom of the first, and then scoring the next eight runs before the Bobcats could answer.

Sandlin finished 2-for-4 with the RBI and run scored on his team-leading 10th home run of the season, while rightfielder Logan Mattix (Loganville, Georgia) had a 2-for-3 day, driving in a pair of runs and adding a stolen base.

Second baseman Dylan Cook (Portola Valley, California) had two hits in four trips with a run scored, and first baseman Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Georgia) posted a 2-for-5 game with a run as well.

Freshman starter Charlie Hecht (Johns Creek, Georgia) took the first loss of his career (3-1) allowing four earned runs in four innings of work. Lander starter Will Jones (5-2) struck out nine over six innings for the win. Bearcat centerfielder Weston Lawing was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.

The Bobcats are back in action again tomorrow, April 11 at 4 p.m. at Lander.
