MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The No. 6 Georgia College softball team (35-5, 12-2 PBC) dropped just its second conference game of the season as part of a split at the University of Montevallo (20-25, 10-10 PBC) Friday. The Bobcats lost 4-3 in game one before taking game two, 6-1.

The first game of the twinbill was an extra-inning thriller with the Falcons scratching across a run in the bottom of the 10th for the 4-3 victory.

Montevallo got the scoring started in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.

The game would remain 1-0 until the fifth, when the Bobcats tied the contest on a Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill, Georgia) RBI single, plating her sister Hannah Coursey (Sugar Hill, Georgia).

The Falcons answered right back in the bottom of the inning on a two-out RBI single to take the lead back, 3-1.

The 'Cats did not go quietly, scoring two of their own in the top of the sixth. Abi LeRoy (Dublin, Georgia) made it a 3-2 deficit when she hit a one-out home run down the right field line. The long ball was her fourth of the season. Frankie Walls (Dahlonega, Georgia) came across later in the inning on a perfectly executed squeeze play to tie the game at three.

The game would head to extras tied 3-3 and would remain that way until the bottom of the 10th, when the Falcons won on a walkoff single.

LeRoy went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. The Coursey twins also both notched multi-hit efforts and an RBI a piece.

Pitcher Marisa Boyette (Marietta, Georgia) was the hard-luck loser, moving her record to 18-2 on the season. The junior tossed 9 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on 12 hits. She struck out 10 batters, while walking just one.

Georgia College bounced right back in game two, scoring six runs on nine hits on the way to a 6-1 win. All six runs would come across via three home runs.

The first two dingers of the game came from the bat of LeRoy, her fifth and sixth of the season. The junior hit a solo shot in the first and a two-run blast in the third for a 3-0 Bobcat lead.

Junior Lacey Najafi (Suwanee, Georgia) extended that lead to 6-0 in the top of the seventh with a three-run homer, plating LeRoy and Danielle Bernstein (Cumming, Georgia). It was Najafi's eighth of the season.

Bernstein went 3-for-4 and scored two runs in game two. Her season average is now a team-leading .431, good for third in the league. LeRoy was 2-for-2 with those two homers, three RBI and three runs scored. She was intentionally walked her last two times at the plate. Her 46 RBI on the season is tied for first in the conference.

Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) came three outs from tossing a no-hitter, allowing just one hit and one walk, both in the seventh inning. The complete game was her 17th of the season and the win gives her a 15-3 record. The junior struck out seven Falcon batters.

The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, April 7 when they host No. 8 University of North Georgia in a top-10 matchup at the Peeler Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
