GC Softball Season Comes to a Close In Super Regional Loss to North Georgia

Box Score

by Alex Cooper, sports information student assistant

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The second game of the NCAA Southeast Super Regional was less than half the time as game one, but the outcome was the same for the Bobcats. Georgia College (47-11) could not get the bats going and sees their season come to a close with a 2-0 loss to the University of North Georgia (49-7).

Both runs for the Nighthawks came in the top of the 1st on a single by Jessica Finch.

Georgia College had three hits in the contest, including two in the fourth. Danielle Bernstein (Cumming) led off with a single but was called out for leaving the base early with Kristen Brooks (Brunswick) at bat. Brooks would then double to deep right center field.

Brooks notched the Bobcats' third hit in the seventh inning but was retired on a lineout double play to end the game.

Sophomore Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) took the loss, pitching three innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Junior Marisa Boyette (Marietta) was outstanding in relief, tossing four shutout innings, surrendering just one hit.

"We had a great season and accomplished some great things, including breaking some school records," said head coach Jamie Grodecki. "We hope to be right back in this spot next year, hopefully hosting a Super Regional."

The Bobcats finish a historic season, winning the most games in program history. Georgia College put five players on All-PBC teams, including two on the first team.

Four Bobcats were named All-Region, including Abi LeRoy (Dublin), Bernstein, Boyette and Lewis.
