Bobcat Men Drop Shootout to Top Team in PBC, 96-87

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – With both teams shooting over 50 percent from the field, the Georgia College Men's Basketball team (14-6, 7-4 PBC) fell in a 96-87 barnburner at the Centennial Center Wednesday to Peach Belt Conference (PBC) leader Young Harris College (11-9, 9-2 PBC).

The teams traded punches in the first half, with the horn bringing a 36-27 lead for Young Harris. The second half is when both teams truly got hot. YHC shot a blistering 60 percent from the field in the second stanza, the Bobcats trying to keep pace at 53 percent.

In a matchup of two of the top three scorers in the PBC, Georgia College's Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Florida) got the upper hand at 27 points to C.J. Wilson's 19. Wilson was one of five double-digit scorers for the Mountain Lions, however, including a pair at 20-plus.

Harris hit 11-for-16 from the field, adding seven assists, six rebounds and four steals to a complete line. Senior Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) added 16 points and five assists.

Freshman Isaac Thomas (Trion) helped key the second-half rally, scoring 13 points with eight boards, 12 of his points coming after halftime. Senior Ryan Blumenthal (Acworth) added 10 points off the pine, knocking down two threes.

The Bobcats and Mountain Lions each came in at 51 percent shooting for the game, Georgia College going 28-for-55, and YHC 30-for-59. The big difference came on the glass, where YHC out-rebounded the Bobcats 39-28. Ben Waterhouse led the Mountain Lions with 24 points, Marques McKoy chipping in 21.

Harris now stands at 1,397 career points, passing Shaun Keaton (2006-09) for fifth in school history. Harris is also second in the NCAA era of men's basketball at Georgia College, behind only Aaron Clark (2004-08) at 1,467.

Senior Rio McMillian (Chicago Heights, Illinois) blocked four shots in tonight's contest, passing Reece Wiedeman (2007-11) for fourth place in career blocks. McMillian has 87.

The loss puts the Bobcats at 7-4 in league play, tied for fourth in the PBC West. The top four teams advance to the PBC Tournament at the end of February.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Jan. 30 at 3:30 p.m., traveling to Francis Marion University.
