MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The No. 9 Georgia College Softball team (4-0) slugged their way through a sweep of Union University (Tenn.) (0-4) 10-3 and 10-1 Sunday. The double header versus Union closed out the Bobcat Kickoff Tournament with Georgia College going undefeated.
Georgia College started the first game off strong scoring three runs in the first inning off a hit from Kristen Brooks (Brunswick) and a fielding error by the Union shortstop granting the Bobcats two runs. A ground out hit from Faith Flanders (Dublin) would bring another run in for the Bobcats.
Pitcher Marisa Boyette (Marietta) tossed five strikeouts in five innings in the first game of the double header. The Bobcats also had a powerful sixth inning scoring three runs from a home run from Taylor Campbell (Warner Robins).
A big bat was senior Abi LeRoy (Dublin) with four RBIs, scoring two runs and going 2 for-3 at the plate and the home run from Campbell would help the Bobcats enter double-digit scoring in their first game win against the Bulldogs.
The second game saw a much slower start until the fourth inning. The Bobcats scored eight of their 10 runs off hits from Baylee Hall (Hephzibah) Danielle Bernstein (Cumming), LeRoy, Brooks, Flanders, and pitcher Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee.)
LeRoy and Flanders both smashed doubles during the monstrous fourth inning for Georgia College. The Bobcats finished the game with 12 hits and nine RBIs.
Lewis pitched the second game only allowing five hits and one run. The junior also tallied four strikeouts.
You can catch the Bobcats back in action next on the road at Anderson University on Feb. 6.
