Harris Sets NCAA-Era Scoring Record for GC in Men's Basketball Loss, 83-69

Box Score

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Basketball team (16-8, 9-6 PBC) dug an early hole and couldn't climb out Thursday night at Young Harris College (13-11, 11-4 PBC), falling 83-69.

The Mountain Lions took advantage of a quick start, jumping out to a 22-13 lead in the first eight minutes. YHC then held the Bobcats at bay for the remainder of the contest, sealing the victory.

Senior guard Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Florida) continued to add to his impressive resume, pouring in 22 points with seven rebounds. The point total gives Harris 1,487 in his career, passing Aaron Clark (2004-08) into fourth place in school history, and tops in the NCAA era of men's basketball at Georgia College, a 25-year history dating back to the first year of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). Third place belongs to Jerry Scott (1977-81) at 1,509.

Harris also made some movement in the single-season scoring marks, where the guard has tallied 566 points. In today's game alone, he passed both Mike Roberts' 546 and Stan Lynn's 552 to take sixth place. Harris ranks just three points behind Ronnie Sims' 1982-83 effort.

Freshman Isaac Thomas (Trion) finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, matching Harris for the team high. Senior Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) stretched his double-digit scoring streak out to 12-straight games with 12 points tonight. Classmate Ryan Blumenthal (Acworth) hit three from long range, totaling 11 points with five boards.

The Bobcats were out-shot 48 percent (29-60) to 36 percent (24-67) from the floor. While Georgia College lost the rebound battle 44-36, the Bobcats did solid work on the offensive glass, out-doing YHC 13-12.

The Bobcats held the conference's second-leading scorer to 10 points below his average in the loss, as the Mountain Lions' C.J. Wilson had just 14 points on 6-for-13 shooting. Bjorn Walker helped power the Lions to victory with a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double.

The loss puts Georgia College at 9-6 in conference games, tied for fourth in the PBC West with Clayton State University. The top four teams advance to the PBC Tournament Feb. 27.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 13 at 3:30 p.m., traveling to the University of North Georgia (5-19, 3-12 PBC). The Nighthawks most recently fell to Georgia Southwestern State University 83-78 Wednesday.
