MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia College Baseball squad (2-3) pulled out a win late in a nail-bitter against Albany State University (0-8), 12-11 Saturday at John Kurtz Field.

Just a day after the Bobcats pitched a shutout to the Golden Rams, coach Tom Carty's squad managed to get a late-game push to squeak out another win. Freshman Garrett Green (Bogart) cranked a double late in the bottom of the eighth to put the Bobcats on top 12-11 for the victory.

The second game started out much like the first with Georgia College taking an early lead of 6-1 after four innings of play. The Bobcats scored three runs in the second after Harris Lyons (Glendale, Arizona), Wesley Wommack (Monroe) and Brandon Cody (San Clemente, California) were on base early after getting walked. Green brought home Lyons on a single to left center. Shortstop Brandon Benson (Loganville) would bring Cody in for the last score of the inning off a single to left field.

The Golden Rams showed their resilience, and in the top of the fifth Albany State started to battle back, scoring three runs on some stellar base running and solid batting.

The tables turned for Georgia College late in the game after a shaky eighth inning. Albany State scored six runs off of five hits and two errors. Going into the bottom of the inning, the Bobcats saw themselves playing catch up to the Golden Rams being down 11-7.

With the Bobcats in the hole Benson would lead off, getting on base after being walked. He quickly advanced to second after John Davis (Marietta) was walked.  Matthew Miller (Escondido, California) reached on a fielder's choice getting to first and sending Davis back to the dugout after being thrown out at second. Benson scurried to third, putting himself in scoring position for catcher Brandon Purcell (Glenville) at the plate.

Purcell ripped a single bringing Benson in for the score. Lyons took a pitch in the back loading the bases for the Bobcats. Wommack earned an easy RBI after being walked with loaded bases. Then Cody smacked a single to bring Purcell in for the score with the Bobcats now only down one run, 11-10. The freshman Green showed heart at the plate cranking out a double and earning two RBIs after Wommack and Lyons crossed home plate. Georgia College retook the lead, 12-11.

Senior closer Chris Gammon (Chandler, Arizona) flexed his muscle going three up and three down for the final Albany State batters. Gammon logged his first save of the season. Freshman Wommack and Green had strong days for the Bobcats. Green finished the day with three RBIs, three hits off three at-bats and his teammate Wommack went two for three at-bat with two RBIs. Senior Dylan Cook (Portola Valley, California) continued his outstanding work in the green and blue with two RBIs on the day.
